Channel Registration form
|
Please fill out this form in order to apply for a registered channel. Note that you do not have
to type a '#' in front of the channel name, as you may be used to do from IRC. The channel name
field, your name, your e-mail address and the channel's charter are required. The other
fields can be left blank. If you do not enter the channel's contact person's name and
e-mail address, you will be considered contact person.
|
Please note the following directions:
|
- You cannot register commonly used ('public') channels, such as 'comp.os.linux' on
your own name. If you like such a channel to be registered, enter as contact
name 'NAG' and as contact e-mail 'nag@wwcn.student.utwente.nl'. This makes
it a public channel, whose administration is in the hands of the Network
Administration Group.
- Channels that refer to public things like countries, cities or people
are in most cases considered to be public; for example channels that end in
.amsterdam, .netherlands or .clinton . Such channels can be
registered, but will have no owner and 'NAG' as contact name.
-
You cannot register channels located in the 'top directory', eg.
'mychannel' or '#mychannel'. Your channel should have a name like
'chat.misc.somename' (in the chat.misc directory) or 'alt.fun.blah' (in the
alt.fun directory). Please
browse
the channel list to see what directories already exist, or use the /list
command
when connected to WWCN.
- You cannot register channels in the 'irc' top directory.
You may ask yourself: Why does it exist then?
The channel is only there to make the transition from IRC to WWCN
easier, but it is a temporary subdirectory and therefore you cannot
register a channel in the 'irc' subdirectory (eg. irc.hottub).
