Ericsson introduces T65 - new GPRS phone with one-button access to the
Mobile Internet

This little phone looks like this:
But wait a minute, didn't they already have a T65? Yes, that is right. It is
the phone you might find lying around in the attic somewhere, and it looks
like this:
This just begs for a nice practical joke, so I've decided to transform the
old T65 into a working GSM.
Parts:
- an old Ericsson T65 phone.
- a GSM phone. I used a Siemens C25 because I had it (the antenna had broken
off so the phone itself wasn't much use to me anymore.
- Some wires
- Some glue
Tools:
- A soldering iron
- A screwdriver
- A camera to make the pretty pictures
I had already made a start on this project before I had a camera near, so
I'll fill you in on what happened up to this picture. I removed the C25 from
it's casing (by forcing it, I know they have tools to do it the correct way
but I didn't have those). Both the microphone and speaker are removable
parts, held in place by the casing. I opened up the horn on the T65, and
removed microphone and speaker from it, leaving the wires in place. Then I
connected the C25 parts in the correct places. The horn in the picture below
is the end result, with the C25 parts glued into place.
Right then, lets get to the pictures.
T65 and C25 opened up. Removed some parts in the T65 so the C25 would fit in
it.
Scratch away all the soldered parts. We aren't using any of the original T65
parts yet. This way we make place for wiring to the C25
Closeup of the damage we've done.
Connecting the wires to the C25. There are 2 little shafts on the casing
where the microphone used to be . With some bending the wires fit nicely
through it. Here the wires for the microphone have been connected to the
C25.
Wires connected on the microphone spot in the C25, and neatly through the
C25 casing.
This is our completed horn. All the parts are in place, and connected with
the original wiring from the T65.
Connecting the C25 to the T65.
The C25 wired up into the T65.
Connect up the horn back to the T65
Another step back. Take a moment to think about what you are doing. Making a
mess, and having fun doing it!
Look, even the color coding is correct!
Last check to see if the C25 will fit. (It does!)
You can see the C25 inside the T65 here.
Another look into the T65
A closer look.
Put the dialing disc back in place, close up, and presto! A mobile T65 phone.
Pity it won't do GPRS just yet.
The end result, and a beer to celebrate.
For those of you wondering, does this really work? Well as far as I know it
should. Pity I fried up the phone before attempting to put it into the T65.
Wishlist:
- A working C25 to place into the T65.
- A mechanism to get the dialing disc to actually work.
- A ring detection, to make the T65 bells do the ringing instead of the
normal C25 ringtones.
